OUR HISTORY

The Schmidt Family has been in the meat and food processing industry since 1943 when Roy Elias Schmidt and his partner, Leo Welch, opened The Schmidt-Welch Equipment Company to rebuild and service equipment in the St. Louis area during WWII. A few years later, Roy bought out his partner, and the company name was changed to Roy E. Schmidt Sales & Service Co.

In 1953, Roy's son, Arthur, joined the company after a tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Art oversaw the company's move to a larger facility in 1963 and the company’s incorporation in 1969. Under Art's leadership, the company doubled in both size and business.

Art was joined by his son, Dale, in 1981 after his graduation from the University of Missouri in St. Louis, and Dale soon took over the sales department. Dale expanded the company's leadership in the digital scale market and continued to grow the company, adding new lines of equipment through the 1980s. Dale was named president of the corporation in 1997 and oversaw another big move into a larger facility a few years later.

In 2001, the corporation was renamed to its current title, Schmidt Equipment & Supply Inc. The company has expanded to cover a 150-mile radius around the city of St. Louis and continues to provide quality equipment, supplies, and exceptional service. In 2019, Dale and his team moved once more to the company’s current location and now have a full test kitchen and demo lab located at 8064 Chivvis Dr. Saint Louis, Mo 63123.
